Chief Web Officer position needed
April 11th, 2006
Chris, over at Brain Fuel, has an interesting post about Chief Web Officers. There is a bit more of a story in Chris’ post and that lends to the legitimacy of the actual thought.
In the end he suggests that there should be a Chief Web Officer position that reports to the CEO of the company. This CWO would have to be someone that actually understands the web, understands the direction the technology is going in and isn’t afraid of the CEO. They would have to stand up for themselves and be able to tell the CEO what will work and what won’t work.

Thanks for the nod. I like what you said. The CEO and the CWO definately would need to be able to talk without the CWO sucking up to the boss.

Hey, no problem. I totally agree that more weight and respect should be given to the online medium, especially in larger corporate environments.
Very few executives, let alone CEO’s, understand what the web is all about and how it can help — or hurt — your business. So when they all get together and try to plot out a good online strategy it’s like them letting their kids run the company for a day.
